Route 5 connects Cerulean City to Saffron City. However, trainers will encounter a security officer who is very thirsty, when they first try to go through the gate to Saffron City. Trainers must take the Underground Path to Route 6 to Vermilion City, as the Security who works the gates to Saffron City are way too thirsty to let traveler’s pass. Trainers must battle 1 Pokemon before traveling through the Underground Path and onto Route 6. Pokemon are leveled 10-17.
Route 9 is is rocky terrain maze that leads across an expanse of land riddled with steep ledges and Pokemon Trainers. The routes leads towards the east to Route 10 and the Rock Tunnel. The entrance of Route 9 is blocked by a small tree and required the HM Cut in order to cut it down and open the Route up for travel. Trainers must have 2 battles before traveling into Route 10 and into the Rock Tunnel. Pokemon are leveled 13-20.
